What does the REPULS solution do?

The REPULS solution causes significant irritation to the eyes, and can irritate the nose, throat, lungs, and skin. Exposure results in involuntary eye closure. REPULS has a pungent odor and stings the skin.

How quickly will REPULS solution incapacitate someone?

Effects will vary by person and by deployment accuracy but generally an individual will be incapacitated within seconds. Involuntary eye closure occurs as soon as REPULS enters the eyes.

How long do the effects of the REPULS solution last if it’s not treated right away.

The effects of the solution will last as long as the material is in contact with the skin, nose, throat, and eyes, or until the solution evaporates or dries.

What is in the REPULS solution?

REPULS is made up of water, ammonium propionate, propionic acid, ammonium citrate and a surfactant. “Ammonium” indicates a buffered form of the acid with a more neutral pH.

Is REPULS lethal?

No, REPULS was designed to irritate any affected individual and be easily mitigated/treated with water.

Is the solution flammable/combustible?

The REPULS solution is nonflammable and noncombustible.

Is the solution poisonous/hazardous?

The REPULS solution is a non-poisonous, non-hazardous, water-based mixture and is only slightly acidic with a pH of 5.6-5.8, less than Coke or Pepsi. Care should be taken to ensure that a large amount of REPULS is not ingested.

Is the solution harmful to children?

The REPULS solution will cause significant discomfort for any age person. Testing by a nationally recognized laboratory has shown the solution will not cause long lasting irritation when used in the manner designed and mitigated by the in-house responders with water.

Does REPULS cause concern for someone with contacts?

Testing and field exposure have not raised any concerns for someone with contacts. Those with contacts subjected to an exposure are recommended to remove and rinse contacts.
